Job Description

Upper & Middle School Ancient Greek & Latin Teacher

Who You Are

The Classics Department at The Episcopal Academy seeks a dynamic and passionate Ancient Greek and Latin teacher to teach four sections of students in grades 7-12 for the 2026-2027 academic year. The ideal candidate is an innovative, student-centered educator who brings the ancient world to life and values curiosity, risk-taking, and collaboration. This position requires comfort teaching all levels of Greek and Latin to students in both the Middle School and Upper School, serving as an Upper School advisor, and participating fully in the life of the school community through advising and extracurricular involvement.

About You

The ideal candidate for the Upper & Middle School Ancient Greek & Latin Teacher at The Episcopal Academy will possess the following:

  • A growth mindset and a deep commitment to creating inclusive and engaging learning environments
  • A student-centered approach to teaching, with lessons that meet a range of learning needs
  • Enthusiasm for collaboratively developing a curriculum grounded in the reading method, rather than a single textbook series
  • Passion for teaching practices that promote student agency, project-based learning, and authentic assessment
  • The ability to mentor and support students through small-group advising
  • Interest in educating the whole child through participation in extracurricular activities
  • Advanced degree in Classical Languages or a closely related field preferred
  • Classroom teaching experience preferred; equivalent experience or recent, relevant academic study will be considered

About Us

Located 16 miles outside of Philadelphia, The Episcopal Academy offers competitive salary and benefits; employer retirement plan match; generous paid time off; excellent work/life balance; access to ongoing professional development; complimentary lunch during the school year; and use of campus facilities, including library and fitness center.

While each employee at Episcopal brings a unique set of competencies and skills to their work, we believe all employees should:

  • Be student-centered, embrace school life, and show it through actions and interactions with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Embody and live The Stripes.
  • Consistently maintain high work standards and motivate others to achieve the same standard of excellence.
  • Demonstrate a desire and willingness to constantly grow and learn, both personally and professionally, and see others, especially students, as having the ability to learn and reach success.
  • Demonstrate a belief in and commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse school community.
  • Foster a positive culture by being optimistic, selfless, flexible, and collaborative.

Position start date: August 2026

Application deadline: Until Filled
