Job Description Job Description * Role: Survey Technician * Location: Janesville, WI 53548 * Job Type: Fulltime - Onsite Position Summary: The Survey Technician will support licensed surveyors and survey crews in gathering and processing field data for civil engineering and land development projects. This role is ideal for individuals with a two-year degree in surveying/geomatics or construction technology, or those with relevant hands-on field experience. This role combines field work, data collection, and office data processing to help produce accurate survey deliverables used for design and construction. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Assist in field survey operations including site setup, control point measurement, topology work, and construction staking. * Operate and maintain survey instruments such as GPS units, robotic total stations, levels, and data collectors. * Collect, record, and verify accurate geographic and elevation data at project sites. * Support survey party chiefs and engineers by preparing sketches, notes, and digital field records. * Load, transfer, and process survey data into CAD or survey software (e.g., Civil 3D, Trimble Access, etc.). * Assist in preparing survey drawings, topographic maps, and data files for internal and external use. * Ensure survey equipment is calibrated and maintained properly; troubleshoot basic equipment issues. * Follow safety protocols while performing field work in diverse outdoor environments. * Support other survey team members and technicians as needed on multi-discipline projects. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: * Associate degree in Surveying Technology, Geomatics, Construction Technology, or equivalent preferred. * OR minimum 2 years of relevant field survey experience with surveying crews. * Demonstrated ability to operate survey instruments and field equipment. Technical Skills: * Basic proficiency with survey equipment (GPS, total stations, levels). * General familiarity with CAD software and data processing tools (e.g., AutoCAD / Civil 3D). * Ability to collect and interpret site measurements and basic geographic data. Work Attributes: * Strong attention to detail and accuracy. * Comfortable with outdoor, physically active work in various weather conditions. * Good communication skills and ability to work within a team. * Willingness to travel to field sites as needed. Preferred Qualifications (Not Required) * Certifications such as Certified Survey Technician (CST) through the National Society of Professional Surveyors. * Familiarity with GPS mapping software and data collection technology. * Prior experience supporting engineering or land development survey teams.
